When the weather suddenly turns to Autumn, I knit faster than I did the moment right before I felt a chill in the air. With a sense of urgency, I knit more than I could ever layer upon woolly layer on my chilled body. These are for you.

The World's Greatest Art Table

"My father gave me the greatest gift anyone could give another person, he believed in me."
Me and Dad, 1972

I have the world's greatest art table. And that's because I have the world's greatest dad, who built it for me. My favorite part is his brand. In all my years growing up on a farm, I don't ever remember an animal being branded. But every dog house and picnic table he built wore his rafter KC with pride.

I love the removable top with built in tool box!

This gorgeous table is 10 feet long and was created with teaching art students in mind. He thought of every little detail, including using his old framing squares for each corner.

See what I mean? The world's greatest art table created by the world's greatest dad. I would love to know what your favorite thing is you were ever given by your dad.

Creeping Up On Giving a Shit

I was at my hairdresser's the other day and he looked pretty excited when I said, "Surprise me! Do whatever you want." And then his face fell a little when I continued with, "Although I have to tell you, I am totally lazy. I'm not going to brush it or blow dry it or even wash it more than once a week. BUT, I have to look presentable for my job." "Hmmm", he mused. "Shall we say that you want your look to say creeping up on giving a shit?" I genuinely laughed so hard, because there has never been a more accurate description of "my look" than that. I don't mind telling you that there are days I don't even give a shit at all. These are the deliciously selfish days that I wear pajamas all day and eat chocolate brownies for breakfast. And there is an art for that. This is not the art that takes 40 hours of grueling work to complete. It is not the art hanging in a gallery that I have to attend openings for, dressed up with hair coiffed. This is the pajama wearing, brownie eating, dog sleeping on my feet art that creeps up on giving a shit. This is the fun stuff that re-charges my batteries.

The Anti-Selfie

"If it will keep my heart soft,
break my heart everyday."
Warsan Shire

I've been told I wear my heart on my sleeve for the world to see. You could probably ask me anything about me and I would tell you straight up, which surprises me because I am an introverted recluse. I skirt around social situations like an aloof and camera shy fox. There are almost no existing photographs of me and I certainly would never take a selfie. This was a problem, I discovered, after I was invited to participate in a selfie inspired art show.

It's true, I do often see myself as a fox. Foxes are small, autonomous, creative, flirtatious, inconspicuous and best left alone when angry. I sculpted this little girl wearing a fox mask to represent me at an upcoming art show.
